The Joy of Grandchildren, Linda Rapp

Updated: Jan 16, 2020

Oh, the joy of having grandchildren! I read a sign once that said “your grandchildren are your reward for not killing your children”. I laugh at that because the pressure you feel when having children and grandchildren is so very different. For some crazy reason as a parent you feel that it is up to you if your children are going to come out all right, what pressure.

We only realize much farther down the road that God is molding and shaping them--He is just using our hands to do it. But on the other hand when grandchildren arrive they are just perfect the way they are.

One of the things that I love about grandchildren is they love to come to our house, and it does not matter the age of the grandchild. Not sure what the pull is, but we do have fun playing card games, eating junk food and papa playing baseball in the back yard with all of us. When they come over they are full of ecstatic joy--bubbling with excitement. What is so fun is that they really like us and being around us. It does a body good.

I was reading in Psalms today and David loved being in “His Father’s” Presence too.

“I will come closer to your very altar until I come before you, the God of my ecstatic joy!....Yes lying before His face is my saving grace” Psalm 43:4-5

Oh to be like our grandchildren and David in the presence of our Almighty Father. We should come into the sanctuary with ecstatic joy bubbling with excitement, knowing we have come to set aside time with Him. Who knows He might play card games with us or go outside to play ball. The thing is I don’t see Him eating any junk food! “Oh to be in the very presence of Almighty God”.
