Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. -Malachi 3:10
Tithing, in its essence, is giving our first fruits for God’s work on earth. It teaches us to put God first in our lives. The Bible mentions tithing in both the Old and New Testaments, giving us a charge to give our “first fruits”, the first ten percent of our earnings, back to the Lord.
Tithing is an invitation to cultivate a healthier relationship with your finances, God, and our community. The Lord doesn’t need your money; rather, He desires your heart. In choosing to cheerfully give the first 10% of your income, you affirm that your love for Him comes first.
Our tithe, or even our offerings, go beyond simple donations to the church; they are a declaration of trust in Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides.
The Lord’s call on us to tithe isn’t one because He wants to take something from us, due to His boundless love for us, it is an invitation to experience the marvels of that love when we choose to put Him first.
